A man sitting down and looking thoughtful.

When life changes and a difficult time begins then it’s not always easy to remain positive.

I know.

Even if you’re pretty optimistic and positive in daily life, it’s easy to get dragged down into pessimism and a sad funk when you’re having a rough week or tough month.

But being able to keep a positive mindset can make a big difference.

So in today’s post I’d like to share the best tips and habits that have helped me over the past 10+ years and still helps me today to handle times like that in a better, healthier and more helpful way.

I truly hope you’ll find something helpful here.

1. Feel what you feel and know it’s OK to do so.

I’ve found that one thing that helps me with my mental health when times get tough is to not deny or push away how I feel.

When a negative situation has just happened and I’m in the middle of it then I at first may feel afraid, nervous, worried or angry. Or a mix of those emotions. That’s normal.

Acknowledging negative thoughts and feelings that can arise from such a situation helps me to process what has happened in a quicker and less painful way compared to if I try to reject such thoughts and emotions.

And it also helps me to, after a while, move on to the next stage of trying to solve or at least improve upon the situation at hand.

So, first know it’s OK to feel and think what you feel. But don’t get stuck in focusing and mulling that over for days or weeks.

2. Ask helpful questions.

A simple next step to move forward is to ask yourself better questions than you may sometimes do in these situations (I, at least, certainly used to ask myself questions all the time that only made me feel worse).

This will help you to regain a positive outlook and find a positive interpretation of the events.

Some of my favorite questions are for example:

  • What is one thing that is positive or good about this situation?
  • What is one opportunity within this situation?
  • Will this matter 5 years from now? Or even 5 months from now?
  • What is one small action, one small and practical step I can take to start turning this situation around?

Ask yourself one or a few of these questions to move yourself into a more optimistic and energetic state of mind and to start making a small plan for what you can do to improve the situation you’re in.

3. Talk it over with someone close to you.

This is one of the most powerful tips in this post and one my most used ones.

Just letting your thoughts and feelings out can be a powerful thing. It can relieve stress and anxiety and all the inner pressure that has built up inside.

And it can help you find a new perspective.

Sometimes as someone close to you simply listens and as you vent and figure things out for yourself.

And sometimes as the other person helps you to navigate your situation and out of negative thinking by sharing what they did when they had similar troubles or by building a small plan together with you for what you need to do next.

4. Get some good knowledge.

You can dispel vague fear and the clouds of uncertainty and anxiety in your mind by doing a bit of research.

By talking to people who have been where you are – or reading their books or listening to their podcasts – you can start to build a realistic roadmap of what your best course of action is and what you can expect on your journey.

This clarity may sometimes bring you new, possible obstacles on your path forward that you had not thought about. But I’ve found that it is a small price to pay. And knowing about them makes it a lot easier to overcome them or reduce their impact compared to if you are just stumbling around in the dark.

5. Tap into gratitude for a few minutes.

Yes, times may be tough right now. It’s not fun.

But there are usually things one can still be grateful for. And tapping into such gratitude tends to be a great way to change your perspective and to improve your energy levels and mood.

A few of the things I tend to feel thankful for even when times are hard are:

  • Three meals a day.
  • A roof over my head during the windy and rainy fall and the cold winter days.
  • Plenty of clean water.

You can find more of these things in this post: 10 Simple Things You Can Be Grateful for Even When Times are Tough.

6. Spend less time on your phone and negative sources.

Keeping yourself updated on what’s happening in your community and the world is helpful.

But spending too much time doomscrolling online or – in my experience at least – on your phone in general tends to lead to more stress, anxiety and negative feelings and thoughts bouncing around in your head.

So spend a bit of time – but not too much – on the news (and especially the negative news stories). And limit your screen time, especially on your phone.

I’ve found that doing this makes me feel better and more optimistic. Especially when I am already going through some tough days, weeks or months. Or during times when it just seems hard to stay positive in a negative world.

7. Readjust your environment to be more supportive and positive.

So spending less time on negative sources of information helps. Spending more of the time you have now freed up from that on positive and supportive sources helps even more.

Find books, Youtube channels, podcasts and so on that uplifts you, helps you to feel better and give you ideas for how to handle challenges in your life.

Then, take the next step to reshape your daily and monthly environment to be a more positive space. Take a look at the people in your life and how they affect you.

Because the people we spend the most time with tend to have a pretty big effect on how we feel and think about things and how resilient we are during hardships.

You can for example ask yourself:

  • Who are the 3 most negative people I spend time with?
  • Who are the 3 most positive and supportive people I spend time with?

Then take a bit of time to figure out how to spend less time with those most negative people and more of the time you free up from that with the most positive people.

8. Spend more time outside and in nature.

I find that if I just go out and cut some grass or do some garden work I tend to feel better and refreshed.

And the same goes for taking a walk in the woods, by the ocean or anywhere out in nature in some form.

It makes it easier to think clearly and optimistically again and the fresh air and exercise recharges my energy.

9. Help someone out.

Perhaps a bit counter-intuitive if you’re not feeling so good about your own life.

But helping someone out when you yourself are going through a tough time can in my experience help a lot.

I’ve found that it gets me out of my head and away from getting stuck in mulling the same negative thoughts over and over.

And if the situation I am going through makes me feel powerless or like a victim then helping someone else out makes me feel strong and capable again.

Plus, their happiness from being helped flows over to me too. And if you help someone then they will often return that favor in some way sooner or later.

A few simple ways to help someone out are to:

  • Give them a hand practically with something.
  • Give them some good advice based on your experience.
  • Just listen when they vent or need to let something out.
  • Give them a genuine compliment for something that means a lot to them or something they do that is too often taken for granted.

10. Spend more time in the present moment.

Learn what you can from the past. And plan for the future by, for example, writing out a plan for the week during Monday morning and then by doing a short to-do list or plan each morning for your day.

But after you’ve done that, don’t linger too much in the past or future because it can bring much fear, worries and negative feelings if you are already in a difficult situation.

Instead, try to spend only 20% or so in the past or future and the rest in the present moment.

I’ve found that when I spend most of my time in the present moment then it’s a lot easier to keep up the motivation, the energy and to access positive emotions.

And to stay practical about what I can do about a negative situation in my life and actually take steps forward with that.

A simple way to reconnect with the present moment if you are slipping into the past or future and getting stuck there is to focus just on what’s going on around you right now for a minute or two.

Feel it with all your senses. See it in detail…

  • Hear the birds or cars going by outside your window.
  • Smell the cold autumn air of the coffee brewing in the next room.
  • Feel the sun, rain or wind on your skin.

You can find a few more ways to spend more time in the present moment in your daily life in this post.

11. Focus on physical fundamentals.

When you’re in a tough situation then it’s easy to stop paying much attention to the fundamental building blocks of daily life.

You feel you simply don’t have time for that and you forget about it. But it’s at these times when the fundamentals can be more important than ever for how you think, feel and act.

The fundamentals I’m referring to are basics such as eating well, exercising and getting enough quality sleep.

These simple things – often ignored because they seem a bit boring or basic – make staying positive easier.

So as best you can, even though your situation may be difficult, try to eat healthy meals, to get some exercise in (even just regular walks) and to not skip on sleep (you can find my guide to sleeping better here).

12. Prepare if you think you’ll receive potentially negative news.

It could be some news at work, with your health or finances or perhaps with family or a pet.

No matter what the potential upcoming situation might be, I have many times found it very helpful to make a small plan or know just one or a few steps I can take if that situation becomes reality.

For example:

  • Actions you can take to reduce the severity of the issue you may be facing.
  • Looking up what others have done in such situations.
  • Preparing your surroundings and home so they are comfortable and filled with things you enjoy and people you love.

Sometimes I don’t need this plan because those potential negative news don’t become reality. Or they are simply so much smaller than I feared that they aren’t that much to deal with at all.

But I still find that the plan helps me because when I’ve written it down I tend to release most of my worrying and negative thoughts about that situation. And so I now feel better and can focus my thoughts and energy again on other things I want to do and enjoy.

13. Remind yourself: I have handled tough situations in the past.

No matter if you just landed in a negative situation, if you’ve been there for a while or fear you may soon wind up in such a situation it’s easy to lose your faith in yourself.

To forget that you have handled tough situations before.

But you have. Many times.

So remind yourself of this simple fact to make it easier to stay optimistic. And to breathe, to calm down and to figure out what you’ve learned from situations in the past that can help you this time too.

14. Seek professional help.

If you use one or a few of these tips for a bit of time and still don’t get the result and inner change you want then consider getting professional one-on-one help.

Getting that on-going support and help in person from an expert like a mental health professional can make a big difference.

How to Deal with Disappointment: 12 Helpful Steps https://steroidfitness.com/how-to-deal-with-disappointment-12-helpful-steps/ Wed, 11 Mar 2026 10:01:12 +0000 https://steroidfitness.com/how-to-deal-with-disappointment-12-helpful-steps/

A woman looking sad while sitting on a couch.

When you get disappointed then it can hurt. Sometimes a bit. Sometimes a lot.

It can drag you down into a negative funk for days or even weeks.

But if you learn how to deal with that disappointment in a healthier and more helpful way then it can be less a lot less scary and painful and actually a springboard or learning experience for further personal growth.

That’s at least been my experience in the past decade.

And in this post I’d like to share 12 steps, tips and habits that I’ve learned over the years and that help me to both handle disappointment and to reduce the situations where I get disappointed in the first place.

1. First, accept how you feel.

Disappointment hurts. And that’s OK.

Don’t try to push it away. And don’t try to hide it under a big smile.

I’ve found that it works better to not be swept away by such tempting impulses.

But to instead accept how I feel. To let it all in and to hurt for a while.

Because if I do then it will go quicker and in the long run be less painful to process what has happened.

If I on the other hand reject how I honestly feel then those emotions can pop up later and at unexpected times. And make me moody, pessimistic or passive aggressive.

2. Remember, you are not a disappointment.

Just because you may have been disappointed, had a setback or made a mistake and disappointed someone else doesn’t mean that you are a disappointment or failure.

And this situation that you’re in right now won’t last forever. Even if it might feel that way today.

The truth is:

  • Just because you were disappointed today or you disappointed someone doesn’t mean that you’ll be or do that tomorrow or the next time.
  • This does not label you as a disappointment (unless you choose to put that label on yourself).
  • If you keep moving forward and you keep taking action then you’ll move on and you’ll improve.

3. Learn from it.

Instead of getting lost in the pain and negative emotions that can come from a disappointment choose to see it more as something you can learn valuable things from (and something that’ll help you to grow).

You can do that by asking yourself better questions.

Questions like:

  • What is one thing I can learn from this?
  • How can I adjust my course to avoid this disappointment in the future?
  • What is one thing I can do differently the next time?

Maybe you learn that you can likely communicate better the next time when you’re in a similar situation or working together with someone else on a task or project.

Or that you need to give yourself a better balance between rest and work to avoid mistakes or to think more clearly.

You might even realize that you need to make a bigger change in your life and start spending less time – or no time at all – with someone who has disappointed you too many times (or always makes you feel like a disappointment no matter how hard you try).

4. Remind yourself: disappointment will happen if you go outside of your comfort zone.

Who is never disappointed? Or never feeling low about a setback or a mistake?

The people who never really go outside of their comfort zone.

Everyone who is now successful and you may look up to have had his or her share of disappointments and failures.

Setbacks and sometimes feeling disappointed is a natural part of living your life fully. A sign of you trying to grow and improve your situation.

I’ve found that just keeping this fact in mind helps me to stay strong and to more easily handle my own stumbles and setbacks.

5. Refocus on what you still got in your life.

To move on shift your focus to what you still got in your life.

The people, the passions and the things you sometimes may take for granted like a roof over your head and clean water.

Tapping into gratitude in this way helps me to put things into perspective and to not let a disappointment overwhelm me and derail my whole week.

6. Talk it over with someone close to you.

Getting a healthier and wider perspective on what happened is, as already mentioned, a vital part of dealing with disappointment in a better way.

And one of the most powerful ways to do that is in my experience to let it out into the light and to talk it over with someone close to you.

By venting as your friend just listens you can release that inner pressure, sort things out for yourself and accept what has happened instead of trying to push it away or ignoring it.

And if the two of you have a conversation about it then you can see the situation through someone else’s eyes and from another perspective.

This person can help you to ground yourself and to not make a mountain out of a molehill. And the two of you can together come up with the start of an action-plan for how you will move forward.

7. If your expectations are of perfection, then adjust them.

If you demand or expect perfection from yourself or from other people then you’ll often be disappointed.

So adjust your expectations a bit.

If you’re disappointed in what you did, what someone else did or how a situation turned out in your life ask yourself:

Will this matter in 5 years? Or even 5 weeks?

That’s one thing that has helped me greatly to not make mountains out of molehills and to adjust my own expectations.

Another helpful thing is simply to remind yourself that if you buy into myths of perfection then you will hurt yourself and the people in your life.

Because such myths that you may have picked up from movies, songs and simply what the world or Instagram highlight reels are telling you will clash with reality and tends to:

  • Cause much stress and suffering within you and in the people around you.
  • Get you stuck in procrastination because you become fearful of being disappointed or disappointing someone else once again.
  • Harm or possibly lead you to end relationships, jobs, projects etc. because your expectations are out of this world.

Keeping this reminder at the forefront of my mind – and sometimes written down on a piece of paper – has definitely helped me to adjust my expectations and reduce my own suffering and disappointments.

8. Take a break (and find other ways to reduce your stress levels as you move forward).

Just focusing on your goals and working towards them all the time can cause unnecessary stress and make you lose your perspective.

And sometimes you just need a break to get over a disappointment. So take some time to rest up, recharge and to have some fun.

After you’ve taken that time off from your goals and dreams you’ll likely be in a better place to accept and learn from what happened and to then move forward once again.

When you’re in this more level-headed place then also take a bit of time to see how you can plan for a better balance between work and restful downtime.

I’ve found that when my balance between those two things is in order then it is usually quite a bit easier to handle setbacks and things not going as I’d like in a more constructive and mentally centered way.

9. Get outside of your own head.

If you know you have a tendency to get stuck in mulling over a negative situation for too long and going down into a downward spiral then get out of your own head and thoughts bouncing around in there.

Two ways to do that and to focus your attention outward is to:

  • Help someone out. Help a friend plan for a party or a meeting at work. Or help him with moving boxes and other stuff into his new home. Or simply be fully there and listen to her as she vents about a disappointment in her life.
  • Exercise. I find that lifting weights or going out for a long walk is a great way for me to focus outward once again, to renew my energy and to sharpen my focus.

10. Find energy and motivation again with the help of others.

Lift your spirits, up the motivation and your positive thinking with the help of others.

It could be with the help of conversations with friends, family or co-workers.

But also help from other people further away in the world (and sometimes in time). Renew that focus and motivation to keep moving towards your dreams with the help of for example:

  • Books (motivational ones or perhaps biographies of people you look up to) and podcasts.
  • Movies, TV-shows and Youtube-channels.
  • Online forums and social media channels.

Spend anywhere from 10-60 minutes with one or a few such sources to find new energy and a shift in your thinking.

11. Find a small step to start moving forward again.

After you have accepted the situation, perhaps learned a thing or two from it and upped your motivation again start to move forward.

You don’t have to take a big and bold leap though.

When I’m in this place myself I usually try to come up with at least the start for a small action-plan for how to go forward. I do that together with someone – like for example my wife – or on my own.

Then I break that plan down into small action-steps. And get to work with the first of those steps.

If I start procrastinating on that step then I break it down into even smaller steps and take action on one of those.

12. Improve your self-esteem.

Improving my self-esteem has helped me to avoid getting dragged down too far into self-criticism and negative emotions after a disappointment.

It has also helped me to not get disappointed in myself as often as I used to but to handle a setback with a more level-headed mind and more emotional stability.

This also makes it easier to not blame others to feel better about myself and to learn more from this situation and get better results the next time.

So how do you improve your self-esteem?

A couple of the most helpful tips and habits I’ve found are:

Write down 3 things in the evening that you appreciate about yourself.

Take a couple of minutes at the end of your day to ask yourself: What are 3 things I can appreciate about myself?

Write down your answers in a notebook, on your laptop or a smart phone. This will help you to start focusing on the positive things about yourself and to stop being so self-critical.

Stop falling into the destructive comparison trap.

If you compare what you have, what you’ve done and who you are to other people and their lives then you’ll most often start to feel depressed and bad about yourself.

Because there’s always people ahead of you.

So choose another way of comparing instead. Start comparing yourself to yourself. See how far you’ve come. What you’ve overcome. And focus on how you’ve improved your results.

Those are just two helpful habits for improving your self-esteem.

You can also use much of what you find in this article such as being constructive in the face of adversity, being kinder and more helpful to others, not thinking that YOU are a disappointment just because of one setback and replacing perfectionism with something healthier.

10 Tips for Success and Happiness https://steroidfitness.com/10-tips-for-success-and-happiness/ Wed, 04 Mar 2026 09:35:20 +0000 https://steroidfitness.com/10-tips-for-success-and-happiness/

When life is overwhelming or you’re having a very stressful week then it can feel like you have no control.

Like you’re a small ship being tossed around on a violent and chaotic sea.

No fun for sure.

At these times I find it helpful to first just focus on breathing deeply and slowly. And to pay attention only to my breath going in and out for a minute or two.

This calms my body down and greatly slows my mind from spinning around in circles.

After that I try to refocus. On what I actually can control. On what I can do to improve upon a situation and move forward.

And in today’s post I’d like to share the tips and habits that have helped me the most with doing just that.

I hope you’ll find something here that helps you out too.

Now, first things first. Let’s have a look at what you can and can’t control in life.

Focus on what you can control

A woman thinking about something while riding the train.

A handful of the most common things someone can control are, for example:

Your actions.

What you take action on or don’t. Your daily or weekly habits. What path you choose as you move forward.

Your communication.

What conversations you choose to engage in or walk away from, what words and tone of voice you use to communicate and the energy you bring into a conversation.

Your priorities.

How you allocate time to different tasks at work, how you choose to prioritize relationships, money and energy in your private life and the balance you set – or at least influence – between work and home life.

Your boundaries.

What you accept and do not accept from others (and yourself too). What you are not willing to put any – or as little as possible – energy into to have more of it available for what truly matters to you.

Your self-care.

This is one that I and many others sometimes neglect and don’t set off time for. But looking after your health and body by for example working out, eating reasonably healthy, getting enough quality sleep and taking time to recharge and for your hobbies are vital for long term happiness and success.

Your attitude and perspective.

How you deal with and learn from a setback and if you take action again or get stuck in inaction. But also what attitude and perspective you bring in during conversations, day to day situations and larger life events or forks in the road.

Your personal growth.

How you aim to develop as a person, what goals and dreams you are working towards and the things you want to improve about yourself.

What you receive and give.

What information and viewpoints you let into your mind from people and other sources. And how you contribute and help out in the lives of others at work, in school and in your private life.

What you cannot control

A few of the things someone can usually not control are:

What other people do and say.

And how they react, respond and behave. Their opinions, their successes or failures and how they feel and think about you and me.

The past.

Learn from it and perhaps find a new view of it, but realize that you cannot change what happened.

The future.

You can influence it by what you plan, say and do but trying to control it tends to only lead to worries, anxiety and conflicts.

Huge and unpredictable forces in the world.

Huge global events like recessions, birth and death, the weather, delays and accidents and so on are outside of your control.

These two lists can, in my experience, be very helpful in themselves to find clarity in what’s controllable when you’re under stress and to reduce confusion, anger or perceived helplessness in many situations.

Now, on to 10 more tips and habits that have helped me out.

1. Keep in mind why it’s essential.

You have limited time and energy each day and week. Choices need to be made about what you focus on.

It’s natural to think and feel and even dwell for a while about a negative situation. But after a while you need to shift your focus to control what you can control or all that thinking will drag you down into inaction and into feeling powerless and negative .

I’ve found that one of simplest ways to remember to keep this in mind is to create a reminder.

Back in the day when I was a big overthinker I had a whiteboard on my wall that reminded me to not overthink. It said: “There is no problem”. And it was usually right, even though my mind thought otherwise.

These days I simply keep a document in my phone with current reminders and thoughts that I look at at the start of each day.

2. Question the situation you’re in.

If you wind up in a situation that seems negative ask yourself these questions to find more clarity:

Will this matter in 5 years? Or even 5 weeks?

This one can help you to zoom out and see things from a wider and calmer perspective. It’s easy to get stressed out about something you shouldn’t pay much or no attention to really.

Is this my problem or situation to resolve?

Or is up to someone else? Remember, you cannot control what someone else does or doesn’t do. Yes, you can help out in some situations but that doesn’t mean that the situation is under your control.

Is this current situation even something I can control? Honestly?

Think it through and don’t default to trying to control any situation you are in because that adds stress and zaps energy.

How have things usually gone in the past with similar situations?

Did they resolve themselves in time and were you worried for no good reason? Or were they honestly under someone else’s control and nothing you could affect much in the end? Look to your past to find patterns and to not make the same mistakes too many times.

3. Find what you can do about it and take action.

The next step after you’ve come to the conclusion that the situation is something that’s important in the longer run and you can do something about is to figure out what that action may be.

Perhaps you already have an idea or two.

If not, ask yourself:

What is one small step I can take today to get the ball rolling and to start improving upon this situation?

Write that down on a piece of paper or in a document on your phone.

That is often the easier part. The harder one tends to be to take action on your small start of a plan.

Here’s what helps me so I don’t get stuck in procrastination.

Break that small step down into a tiny step.

If the small step is to take action for 10 minutes then break the start of that small step down into a tiny step that only takes 2 minutes to get to done. Then complete that.

Change your mood.

If you don’t feel like taking action or it feels too hard then one thing that helps me is change my mood. Simple and relatively quick ways to do that are:

  • Go out for a walk in the fresh air.
  • Work out.
  • Take a shower.

Tell yourself: if I only get this small or tiny step done today then it will have been a good day.

Because it’s true, compared to if you procrastinate all day with busy work that doesn’t really move you forward.

4. Keep moving forward.

With your small win in your back pocket take a bit of time to think about your start of a plan.

How can you make it into a more full, step-by-step plan to help you with this situation you’re in?

Sit down with a pen and paper, use the momentum and confidence you’ve now built up and keep moving forward to take control of your life.

5. Reminder: there’s always some part you can control.

Even if someone makes a bad decision at work that you have no say over or random stuff just happens that leads to a setback for you.

It’s easy to forget that even in such situations you can control your words, actions and attitude towards it. You can make the situation worse by what you say or keep stewing and stay angry. Or you can take control and move on and let the situation go or look for a path forward for yourself at least.

Use the list of things you can control at the start of this post for inspiration when you at first feel like there’s nothing you can do about a situation to find something small you can still control and then build on that.

6. Consider what and who you let into your mind.

If you spend a lot of time with people and other sources of influence like social media, TV, podcasts or books that make you feel negative, frustrated and like you don’t have a lot of power over your life then that will likely affect your mood and view of the world and yourself.

So ask yourself this to help yourself to set healthier boundaries:

What are the top 3 sources of negativity in my life?

Then ask yourself this question:

What can I do to spend less time with these 3 sources this week?

It could be to not see someone (or to see them less), to delete a few sources in your social media stream or unsubscribe to podcasts or newsletters.

Then spend the time you’ve now freed up with the most positive, supportive or helpful people and sources in your life and on vital things for well-being like hobbies or resting and recharging.

7. Don’t push self-care away to “someday”.

If you feel there is a situation – or maybe a few of them – right now that isn’t under your control then self-care is important to prioritize getting your mind away from your challenges and to feel better again.

So don’t neglect that. Don’t push it off.

I’ve found that the days when I think that I don’t have time to exercise or to get out and get some fresh air, sunlight and a walk are the days when that matters and helps the most.

Self-care will improve your recovery, recharge you with new energy and I find that it gives me a healthier outlook on the situation I’m in.

Besides working out and going out for a walk a few of my favorite ways to use self-care is to:

  • Let it out and talk to someone about it. This can help me to gain a more level-headed and grounded perspective again and allow me to see my options for what I actually can control and do something about.
  • Take time to just relax. Maybe read or watch something I know will make me laugh and help me relax so I can bounce back.
  • Find something to look forward to. This can be a helpful way to think about the future and to feel better again. So dream about a trip or a concert that’s coming up soon in your life. Or contact friends and plan for a dinner together or an evening down at the pub.

8. Know how to say no.

If you have a hard time saying no then it’s easy to get stuck in other people’s plans and to feel like you have little say over things.

This can definitely, in my experience, make you feel like you don’t have as much control over your time and life as you’d like and like you’re less powerful than you actually are.

So in this section I’d like to share my favorite tips for getting better at saying no. And you can find a whole post with 10 tips for saying no here.

Focus on why you’re saying no.

Not to be mean or disappoint someone. But to set a healthy boundary for your life to free up time and space for your own goals and what matters the most to you like your family or your health.

Kindly disarm and keep your no short.

You can first say that you appreciate the kind offer. And then follow that up with honestly telling them that you, for example, don’t have the time. You don’t have to over explain, I’ve found that it tends to make some people pushier and more stubborn.

If you feel a bit guilty then that’s OK.

But feeling guilty doesn’t mean that you have to act on that emotion. Just be with it and accept how you feel right now and soon that emotion will lose power and become smaller and smaller.

9. Learn how to let go.

If the things you can’t control keep bouncing around in your head then that will take away plenty of energy and your focus from the things that are truly important.

So learning to let go of those things are very helpful for success, for your well-being and to focus your energy in the right place.

Here’s a few of my favorite tips for getting better at letting go. I also have a post about letting go and moving on here.

Accept how you feel.

As I mentioned above about feeling guilty, if you just stay with how you feel – maybe frustrated, angry or disappointed – and let that fully in and accept it then that emotion will lose steam and become smaller. And so letting it go – instead of it clinging in your body and mind – becomes easier.

Talk about it.

As mentioned in the section on self-care, talking a situation over with someone can be helpful to gain a healthier perspective. And sometimes it can help to just vent to someone about a situation to be able to let it go more easily.

Journaling about it, to just write it out on paper or your laptop can also be a way to vent, find a new viewpoint and let go.

10. Make gratitude a daily or  weekly habit.

Tap into gratitude to shift from a negative and disempowered headspace to feeling more powerful again and to focus on things that are positive and under your influence.

You can do that by using a gratitude journal each day. For example, in the morning or before bedtime.

Or you can set a reminder on your phone to focus on gratitude for just a minute or two a few times a week.

5 questions that are helpful for gratitude in this case are:

  • What’s one small thing I can be grateful for in my life?
  • What’s one thing I can be grateful for about the people in my life?
  • What’s one thing I can be grateful for about myself?
  • What’s one challenge that I am grateful to have had because it made me stronger?
  • What are 1-3 things that I can be grateful for to be able to control in my life?

Try these questions out and see which ones resonate the most and work the best for you to feel more positive, empowered and in the driver’s seat of your life.

Why Moving to a New City Can Change Your Mindset https://steroidfitness.com/why-moving-to-a-new-city-can-change-your-mindset/ Mon, 16 Feb 2026 08:14:38 +0000 https://steroidfitness.com/why-moving-to-a-new-city-can-change-your-mindset/

Many young men today quietly battle depression, loneliness, and a sense of confusion about who they’re meant to be.

Some blame the lack of deep friendships or romantic relationships. Others feel lost in a digital world that often labels traditional masculinity as “toxic.”

But the truth is this: becoming a man in the modern age takes more than just surviving. It takes resilience, direction, and a willingness to grow even when no one’s watching.

Success doesn’t arrive by accident or luck. It’s built on discipline, sacrifice, and consistency.

Here are 9 harsh truths every young man should know if he wants to thrive, not just survive, in the digital age.

1. Never Use Your Illness as an Excuse

As Dr. Jordan B. Peterson often says, successful people don’t complain; they act.

Your illness, hardship, or struggle shouldn’t define your limits; it should define your motivation. Rest when you must, but always get back up and keep building your dreams. Motivation doesn’t appear magically. It comes after you take action.

Here are five key lessons I’ve learned from Dr. Peterson:

  • Learn to write clearly; clarity of thought makes you dangerous.

  • Read quality literature in your free time.

  • Nurture a strong relationship with your family.

  • Share your ideas publicly; your voice matters.

  • Become a “monster”, powerful, but disciplined enough to control it.

The best leaders and thinkers are grounded. They welcome criticism, adapt quickly, and keep moving forward no matter what.

2. You Can’t Please Everyone And That’s Okay

You don’t need a crowd of people to feel fulfilled. You need a few friends who genuinely accept you for who you are.

If your circle doesn’t bring out your best, it’s okay to walk away. Solitude can be a powerful teacher. It gives you space to understand what you truly want from life. Remember, successful men aren’t people-pleasers; they’re purpose-driven.

3. You Can Control the Process, Not the Outcome

Especially in creative work, writing, business, or content creation, you control effort, not results.

You might publish two articles a day, but you can’t dictate which one will go viral. Focus on mastery, not metrics. Many great writers toiled for years in obscurity before anyone noticed them. Rejection, criticism, and indifference are all part of the path.

The best creators focus on storytelling, not applause.

4. Rejection Is Never Personal

Rejection doesn’t mean you’re unworthy. It simply means your offer, idea, or timing didn’t align.

Every successful person has faced rejection repeatedly. What separates them is persistence and perspective. They see rejection as feedback, not failure. The faster you learn that truth, the faster you’ll grow.

5. Women Value Comfort and Security

Understanding women requires maturity and empathy.

Through books, lectures, and personal growth, I’ve learned that most women desire a man who is grounded, intelligent, confident, emotionally stable, and consistent. Some want humor, others intellect, but nearly all want to feel safe and supported.

Instead of chasing attention, work on self-improvement. Build competence and confidence, and the rest will follow naturally.

6. There’s No Such Thing as Failure, Only Lessons

A powerful lesson from Neuro-Linguistic Programming: failure only exists when you stop trying.

Every mistake brings data. Every setback builds wisdom. The most successful men aren’t fearless. They’ve simply learned to act despite fear.

Be proud of your scars. They’re proof you were brave enough to try.

7. Public Speaking Is an Art Form

Public speaking is one of the most valuable and underrated skills a man can master.

It’s not about perfection; it’s about connection. The best speakers tell stories, inspire confidence, and make people feel seen. They research deeply, speak honestly, and practice relentlessly.

If you can speak well, you can lead, sell, teach, and inspire. Start small, practice at work, in class, or even in front of a mirror, and watch your confidence skyrocket.

8. Teaching Is Leadership in Disguise

Great teachers are not just knowledgeable. They’re brave, compassionate, and disciplined.

Teaching forces you to articulate what you know, and in doing so, you master it at a deeper level. Whether you’re mentoring a peer, leading a team, or sharing insights online, teaching refines your purpose.

Lifelong learners become lifelong leaders.

9. Study Human Nature to Achieve Your Dreams

One of the toughest lessons to accept: most people are self-interested.

That’s not cynicism, it’s human nature. Understanding this helps you navigate relationships, business, and communication more effectively.

Everyone has a darker side, but successful people learn to channel theirs productively into discipline, creativity, and drive.

Psychology isn’t just theory; it’s a toolkit. Learn how people think, act, and decide, and you’ll know how to lead them, influence them, and even understand yourself better.

Final Thoughts

The digital age offers endless opportunities, but only to those who are willing to take responsibility, confront discomfort, and keep improving.

Becoming a man today means embracing the hard truths most avoid.

Because at the end of the day, success isn’t about luck. It’s about who you become when life tests you the most.

The Hidden Reason You Can’t Stay Consistent https://steroidfitness.com/the-hidden-reason-you-cant-stay-consistent/ Fri, 13 Feb 2026 20:02:17 +0000 https://steroidfitness.com/the-hidden-reason-you-cant-stay-consistent/

Success often looks like a time-management problem. You buy a planner, set reminders, and hope that next week will be different. For a few days, it works. Then stress hits, motivation drops, and old patterns return.

The issue usually is deeper than your schedule. It lives in how you see yourself.

That is why a growth identity matters. When you view yourself as someone who can learn, adapt, and improve, your actions start to match that belief.

You stop chasing quick fixes and start building a stable inner system. Instead of asking, “How do I force myself to do this today?” you ask, “Who am I becoming through this action?”

This shift sounds simple, but it changes your choices in class, at work, and in everyday life. It helps you stay consistent when results are slow because your behavior is tied to identity, not mood. Over time, that is what creates meaningful progress.

What Are Identity-Based Habits?

Identity-based habits are repeated actions connected to the person you believe you are becoming. They are not random productivity tricks. They are proof of identity in motion.

A goal says, “I want an A this semester.” An identity-based habit says, “I am a student who prepares early, asks questions, and revises before deadlines.”

The difference is huge. Goals focus on outcomes. Identity-based habits focus on character and process. Outcomes can rise and fall. The process can stay steady.

For instance, aiming to read more could translate into a specific goal of completing two books monthly. If your identity is “I am a learner,” your habit becomes reading ten pages daily before bed.

Even when life gets busy, ten pages feel doable. That small action reinforces your identity. Your identity reinforces the next action.

The same pattern works in academic performance. Study routines, revision habits, and focused practice become easier to maintain when they reflect who you are trying to become.

Recent Studyfy research discussions around student learning behavior point to the same idea: consistent learning routines improve comprehension, confidence, and long-term outcomes.

In plain words, small repeated habits support better learning, and better learning supports success.

The Mindset Shift That Changes Everything

Many people fail because they try to change behavior without changing self-perception. They set bigger goals, stricter rules, and harder deadlines. Yet inside, they still identify as someone “bad at consistency” or “always behind.”

Your mind will always try to keep actions aligned with identity. That is why mindset comes first.

The shift in mindset starts when you catch internal scripts that sabotage progress and replace them with useful ones. Instead of “I always procrastinate,” you use “I am learning to start early, even if it is only ten minutes.”

Here are key signs you may need that shift:

  • You rely on motivation and feel stuck when motivation is low.

  • You set ambitious plans but abandon them after one difficult week.

  • You call yourself lazy, disorganized, or undisciplined without questioning those labels.

  • You keep changing tools and strategies, but your core behavior stays the same.

  • You avoid challenges that might expose weakness, even when growth requires discomfort.

How Personal Transformation Drives Lasting Success

Lasting success rarely comes from a single breakthrough. It usually comes from individual transformation, where your daily behavior, environment, and support system evolve together.

Transformation has two layers. The first is internal: beliefs, self-talk, and standards. The second is external: routines, accountability, and the people around you. When both layers align, progress compounds.

This is why support matters. Many people mistakenly view needing assistance as a sign of weakness. However, requesting help is, in fact, a smart and strategic decision. A mentor can shorten your learning curve.

A coach can spot blind spots. An assignment helper can reduce overload when deadlines pile up and teach better workflow habits through guided support.

Start your identity transformation by following these steps:

  1. Write one identity statement you want to live by, such as “I am a student who completes work before panic mode.”

  2. Choose one tiny daily habit that proves this identity, even on stressful days.

  3. Track consistency for two weeks, focusing on completion rather than perfection.

  4. Build friction against bad habits by changing your environment, like placing your phone in another room during study blocks.

  5. Build ease for good habits by preparing cues, such as opening your notes before dinner, so starting feels natural later.

  6. Ask for guidance from a mentor, tutor, or assignment helper when you hit repeated obstacles.

  7. Reflect weekly: What worked, what failed, and what identity am I reinforcing through my choices?

These steps may look small, but they produce momentum. Your new identity strengthens proportionally with the evidence you gather. A stronger identity makes better choices easier. Better choices create better results. That loop is where lasting success grows.

Why Willpower Alone Isn’t Enough

Willpower is useful, but unreliable. It changes with sleep quality, stress, hormones, and emotional state. If your entire success plan depends on feeling strong every day, you will eventually lose traction.

Systems beat willpower because systems reduce decision fatigue. Pre-planning your habits reduces the mental energy spent on internal negotiation. You do the task because that is what your routine expects, not because your mood gives permission.

To become the person you want to be, you do not wait to feel like that person first. You act like that person in small ways now.

If you miss a day, do not turn it into a character judgment. Return quickly. Recovery speed matters more than perfect streaks.

People who grow consistently are not flawless. They are good at restarting.

Final Take: Build a Self You Can Trust

Real success is less about intensity and more about alignment. When your habits are in alignment with your identity, the progress you make feels solid and lasting. You stop living in cycles of hype and burnout.

Start small. Pick one identity. Prove it daily through one repeatable action.

Over time, your results will reflect your routines, and your routines will reflect the person you chose to become.
